Near-Life Experience
Please excuse the temporary placeholder cover. This was my first novel, and I love it, but I’m excited to revise it with the skills and experience I’ve gained in the years since I wrote it. Here’s a bit of the premise:
The time has come for Asher to be born into a mortal body with no memory of his past life as a spirit-being. If he successfully navigates the obstacles of mortality he will return from Earth triumphant and gain the powers of a god. But if he stumbles he could lose his way forever, and lead his friends away with him.
When another spirit offers all the rewards of mortality without any risk, Asher abandons his friends for the safer path. But far from the promised utopia, Asher is banished to Earth for rebelling, unable to appreciate the world he helped create in a body of his own.
Trying to make the best of the near-life he’s chosen, Asher joins his fellow outcasts’ organization, but he doesn’t fit in. They desire only power through manipulation. The friends Asher left behind will be born onto Earth soon. He’ll do anything to protect them from his insidious comrades, even pretend to enjoy his part in the evil spirits’ plan to destroy the mortals.
Once Asher discovers that the other spirits have used him to prepare an attack on a mortal friend he must choose: deflect the attack from the inside, or defect and fight a powerful evil with only second-hand experience with good. He may gain unexpected help and a chance at a real Earth-life in his own mortal body. But if he fails, he will bring the wrath of legions upon the ones he loves most.
