I also offer affordable chapter critiques, and query critiques by Kara Reynolds, inbox manager of a top-three most queried literary agents on QueryTracker. Kara sees hundreds of queries each week, teaches popular classes on querying and is the former president of a literary awards program. Note: I am NOT a copyeditor, and these critiques are developmental in nature.
Basic chapter critique: You will receive a one-page chapter critique of up to 3000 words* including its strengths, and highlghting areas for improvement. I’ll point out any major points of confusion or problems and add in-line comments where necessary for clarity. I’ll also give my overall thoughts on the chapter, its hook, content and ending, the direction I think the story is heading, and what promises I feel the chapter is making for the rest of the novel. I am encouraging and kind in my feedback, so don’t be afraid!
In-Depth chapter critique: You’ll receive the above, plus a deeper dive into each opportunity for improvement. I’ll give in-line comments pointing out places to add characterization, voice, or worldbuilding, and I will add more detailed explanation of my thoughts or reasoning. I’ll give actionable suggestions for ways to tackle specific critique (these are always suggestions and options–I will never tell you how to write your story!). I will also suggest line edits where I think they might help with thoughts behind them, but your chapter may change quite a bit before you’d need to implement changes on a line level.
In-Depth chapter critique+Query Critique: All of the above, plus a thorough critique with suggestions for improvement on a query letter of up to one page (12pt single spaced Times New Roman) by Kara Reynolds, inbox manager to one of the most queried agents in the world. Kara sees hundreds of queries each week and teaches popular classes on crafting query letters.
